Patient Instruction for Collecting at Home
- Refrain from any sexual activity including masturbation for 2-7 days prior to collecting specimen.
- Specimen must be collected in a sterile specimen cup with lid provided by Virginia IVF & Andrology Center or by patient's doctor's office.
- Collect your specimen no more than one hour before your scheduled appointment.
- Before collection, make sure your hands and genitals are clean and dry.
- Specimen should be collected by masturbation without the use of any lubrication, including saliva.
- Label cup with your full name, social security number, and date and time of collection.
- Complete the Patient Instructions for Semen Collection form.
- Keep the specimen cup in the upright position and between room and body temperature during transit to the lab.
