While searching out additional therapies, it must be understood they are not a substitute for the physician's medical program, which has been designed specifically for you. Furthermore, they do not guarantee conception. What they can provide is a more calm and positive atmosphere allowing the physical body to reach its full potential by alleviating stress.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a treatment of ancient Chinese origin. It consists of a number of procedures intended to stimulate anatomical
points of the body. These points are believed to connect with pathways called meridians which conduct Qi throughout the body. Qi
is the body's vital energy and is thought to control physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being.
The most common form of acupuncture used in the United States is the use of needles that are inserted into the skin at
specific points. The needles may be stimulated electrically or manually. In infertility, acupuncture seeks to increase blood
flow to the uterus and to control stress.
The staff of Virginia IVF and Andrology Center are happy to accommodate its patients use of acupuncturists brought to our
facility, as long as the procedures are scheduled with us in advance.

Herbs
We understand that many patients today are very interested in herbal remedies. Because of the possible side effects
and/or interactions that such remedies may have with traditional treatment; we strongly suggest that you discuss
with your physician any herbs you are interested in trying. Please do not start any herbal supplements without
first checking with your physician.
Meditation
As discussed in the Understanding and Relieving Stress section, meditation can go beyond traditional means of relaxation
into the areas of body blessings. Many believe that we can empower our bodies by thinking positive, empowering thoughts. If
you are interested in learning more about specific meditation techniques, try out a meditation class.
