Donor Sperm

Virginia IVF and Andrology Center does not currently operate a Donor Sperm Program. We will gladly accept cryopreserved sperm from other IVF centers or donor agencies for patients who wish to undergo in vitrofertilization (IVF) at our facility or intrauterine insemination (IUI) at their physician’s office. Sperm can be transferred to our storage facility until the patient is ready to thaw and transfer them. Donor sperm transferred to Virginia IVF and Andrology center must meet FDA requirements for infectious disease testing before it can be used in an assisted reproductive procedure. Fees may apply.

In addition, Virginia IVF and Andrology Center can assist in the required FDA infectious disease testing protocol for patients who wish to use a known sperm donor, such as a friend or relative of a partner. Known donor sperm will require cryopreservation of the sperm during the testing process. Appropriate fees will apply.

The success of the thawing process can vary depending on the quality of the sperm. In general, approximately 50% of all frozen sperm survive the thawing process. Pregnancy rates using thawed donor sperm at Virginia IVF and Andrology Center are comparable to those of fresh (non-frozen) sperm.
