Fresh IVF Cycles

Single Cycle IVF Options

A single IVF Embryo cycle is one in which the patient intends to undergo one fresh IVF cycle. This is one cycle of ovarian stimulation followed by a retrieval of all the eggs from the patient. The eggs are then inseminated to create embryos for the patient. The recipient works with her physician to determine the appropriate number of embryos to transfer back to her, and any remaining good quality embryos are frozen. Those frozen embryos can be used for future frozen embryo cycles.

A patient may choose to freeze a portion of her eggs rather than inseminate all of them. The main reasons for freezing eggs are to minimize the number of embryos created or because the patient is using donor sperm and wants the opportunity to create embryos with a future partner.

The patient also has the option of using a sperm donor, a known egg donor, and/or a gestational carrier as desired or needed. A patient may also choose to have Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) on her embryos that are produced from a single IVF Embryo cycle.

In a single IVF Oocyte cycle, a patient chooses to undergo ovarian stimulation with the express purpose of freezing all eggs retrieved. The reason for this type of cycle is fertility preservation, whether it is for personal or medical reasons. It allows a patient to inseminate and transfer her eggs at a future time of her choosing.

Multiple Cycle IVF Options

Shared IVF Success Program. Virginia IVF and Andrology Center offers the Shared IVF Program, which is one is which the patient has the option to undergo multiple fresh IVF cycles if the initial one does not result in pregnancy.

This program allows the patient to have up to six fresh IVF cycles, and freeze and store any excess embryos produced by those cycles. After any unsuccessful fresh cycle, the patient will utilize any frozen embryos in frozen embryo cycles for further pregnancy attempts.

The patient may terminate this program at any time. If termination occurs between IVF cycles, a full program fee refund is given. If termination occurs during an IVF cycle, a partial refund is given. If all possible cycles are exhausted and no baby is taken home, the patient will be refunded her full program fee.

Multicycle IVF Program. The Multicycle program is available to any patients who are not eligible for the Shared IVF Program.

This program allows the patient to have up to two fresh IVF cycles, and freeze and store any excess embryos produced by those cycles. If the first fresh cycle is unsuccessful, the patient will utilize any frozen embryos in frozen embryo cycles for further pregnancy attempts. If necessary, the patient will go on to a second fresh IVF cycle and additional frozen embryo cycles, if necessary and available.
